Humanity is preparing to welcome robots into their lives, whole, and sole. We all know how robots have changed the way warehouses function or the way we till and harvest our farms. In this article, I would like to draw your attention to a few purpose-built bots that we found rather interesting.

Julia, by Nymble

Nymble is an Indian start-up that intends to take over kitchens across the world. Only slightly larger than a microwave, their product Julia is a robot sous chef that cooks food for you. Isn’t that amazing? Once you select the recipe and load up the ingredients, all you need to do is to tap “Cook”. Voilà! Founded by Rohin Malhotra, their story makes for an interesting read.

The Mini Bakery, by Wilkinson Baking Company

Imagine a bread factory that is compressed to fit into a couple of wardrobes. That is what The Mini Bakery is. In their words “The Mini Bakery, the first of its kind, is pioneering a fully automated way to bake bread. It mixes, forms, proofs, bakes and cools bread all on its own. From autostart to notifying employees when bread needs to be sliced, the breadbot is packed full of features and has the potential to revolutionize the bread industry as we know it.

FoldiMate, by FoldiMate, Inc

Here is a bot that plans to automate a chore I hate to do — folding my laundry. I only hope to be able to afford it when they launch. FoldiMate looks much like a small refrigerator. Feed it your laundry and it gives you a folded stack in return. Check out their video here.

SOMATIC

The next time you step into a washroom, do not be surprised if you find it being cleaned by one of these bots. While floor cleaning robots have been around for some time now, SOMATIC specializes in cleaning washrooms. The capabilities of SOMATIC are on full display in this video. Currently, SOMATIC is being deployed across washrooms in the US. They charge a monthly flat fee (and no upfront charges) to deploy SOMATIC.

Fluid Robotics

Fluid Robotics is a start-up based out of Pune, India. The company’s flagship product is a bot that can map and assess subterranean pipeline infrastructure. They provide “products and services that enable better management of water and wastewater infrastructure. Through the use of Robotics and Information Technology the company is helping cities take control of water pollution caused due to untreated wastewater entering lakes, rivers and ground water.

WasteShark by RanMarine

RanMarine Technology specializes in the design and development of industrial autonomous surface vessels (ASV’s) for ports, harbors, and other marine and water environments. Their product, WasteShark swims autonomously on water surfaces and sucks into itself plastics, bio-waste, and other debris. Each unit can remove up to a ton of waste per day.
